Meet THE BLOCKS New Program Director, Britney Helmers

In 2018, Salt Lake City and County joined forces to build awareness for downtown performing and visual arts organizations through a collaborative effort called THE BLOCKS. Since then, alongside its promotion efforts THE BLOCKS has served as presenter for a modest level of downtown programming, like the wintertime GLOW installation on the Gallivan Plaza and curating art to appear within display kiosks along Main Street. Now, however, THE BLOCKS is doubling down on its commitment to creating downtown vibrancy with the hire of Britney Helmers, THE BLOCKS new Program Director. “I am so excited to be a part of THE BLOCKS,” Helmers says. “I’ve never been more motivated to make a positive impact than I am now.” After attending the Savannah College of Art & Design, Helmers pursued a career in commercial interior design, most recently with BCG Holdings where she worked on The Granary District and previously with Drumbeat, the architects of The Granary’s workspace anchor, INDUSTRY.

Along with helping to bring the Little City Saturday evening concerts to the Green Loop Pop-up, Locally Made Locally Played on Wednesday’s, downtown events and activations Helmers is working to bring to THE BLOCKS later this summer and fall include: live music and artists to enhance the USA Climbing World Cup Boulder/Speed competitions at Pioneer Park, May 19-21, 2023; creation of Steppin’ on Main, an event to be held on the front steps and in the lobby of the Eccles Theater highlighting Salt Lake City’s diverse arts community; and expansion of THE BLOCKS’ annual GLOW installation with more artists and immersive art experiences as creation of a festival-like atmosphere during this art installation’s winterlong run on Gallivan Plaza.
