UNLADYLIKE2020 Screening and Community Conversation

Please join us for a research presentation on Martha Hughes Cannon and Zitkala-Ša, two women who had tremendous impact on Utah and U.S. history, and a sneak peek screening of the first episode of UNLADYLIKE2020 on Monday, April 22, at 7:00 pm at the Salt Lake City Public Library Auditorium, 210 E 400 S, Salt Lake City, UT.

UNLADYLIKE2020 is an innovative multimedia series featuring extraordinary, unsung women who changed America at the turn of the 20th century, launching in 2020 in honor of the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage, the 55th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, and the 150th anniversary of Utah women’s suffrage.

This event includes a:

  • Presentation by documentary filmmaker and UNLADYLIKE2020 series creator Charlotte Mangin on her research about Martha Hughes Cannon, the first female state senator, and Zitkala-Ša, Native American author, civil rights activist, and musician, and on the creative process behind telling these women’s stories through animated documentary film
  • Screening of the UNLADYLIKE2020 trailer and a sneak peek of the first episode in the series, which tells the story of aviator Bessie Coleman, the first African American woman pilot
  • Panel discussion moderated by Neylan McBaine, CEO of Better Days 2020, with Charlotte Mangin, Jane Hafen, Professor Emerita of English, University of Nevada, Las Vegas and editor of a collection of Zitkala-Ša’s writings Dreams and Thunder, and other special guests.
  • Audience discussion and Q&A
