Much Ado About Nothing

Much Ado About Nothing

Much Ado About Nothing

Presented by New World Shakespeare Company at Wasatch Theatre Company

This September, NWSC launches a production of Shakespeare’s classic tale of gender politics and romance, Much Ado About Nothing, a story about lovers at odds who learn life lessons and come together in harmony.

Much Ado offers a timeless tale of the values of communication, particularly between the sexes. As the title suggests, a heap of the plot has to do with a whole lot of fuss over misunderstandings and  unspoken intentions. Beatrice and Benedick start the play warring, their romantic history layering on bitterness in the form of stabbing, rapier wit and wordplay. Running alongside this skirmish of sardonicism is a tale of young, fresh-faced lovers, their perceptions not yet made weary by the world, and a plot to undo everyone’s happiness by the bastard prince Don John. The appeal of Much Ado lies in its characters wonderful relatability. Not a one among them is without flaws, from Benedick’s heavily-masked insecurities to Dogberry’s malopropisms.

Each production benefits a charitable campaign for a local cause that relates to the theme of the show. This New World production is proud to support the Utah Women’s Giving Circle.
