ARTIST STATEMENT

In this work I utilize vessel forms as powerful symbols to explore the containment of matter and an intentional break in the continuity of nature. Through this collection of mixed media works, I invite viewers to contemplate the rigidity of these vessels, as they hold and transfer vital liquids, mirroring the transmission of our collective human experiences.

The fluid contained within these vessels represents the essence of our stories and knowledge. Like a flowing liquid, it drips from one vessel to the next, signifying the continuous transmission of wisdom, insights, and traditions across generations. As the fluid travels, it symbolizes the intergenerational exchange, the passing down of narratives, and the growth and evolution of our collective understanding.

Through the medium of mixed media, I strive to capture the beauty and significance of these vessels, emphasizing their interconnectedness and the transformative power of the stories they carry. By incorporating various materials, textures, and colors, I aim to create artworks that evoke a sense of curiosity and reflection, inviting viewers to consider the rich tapestry of human history and the importance of preserving and sharing our cultural heritage.

Through this artistic journey, may we recognize the profound interplay between past, present, and future allowing the metaphorical vessels to guide your contemplation. ARTIST BIO

Joshua Luther is an accomplished artist whose creative journey began at a tender age. Since his early childhood, Luther has been captivated by the world of art, exploring various mediums and techniques with a relentless passion. His dedication and natural talent have propelled him to achieve great heights in the realm of visual arts, making him a distinguished figure in the contemporary art scene.

Luther's artistic education played a crucial role in shaping his unique perspective and honing his technical skills. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree with a specialization in painting from Utah State University, where he delved deep into the expressive possibilities of color, form, and composition. During this period, Luther's work exhibited an innate ability to evoke emotions and provoke introspection.

Driven by an insatiable curiosity and a desire to expand his artistic horizons, Luther pursued further education, obtaining a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree with an emphasis in printmaking from the prestigious University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Luther's exploration of printmaking techniques imbued his work with a tactile quality, adding depth and intricacy to his artistic expressions.
