Excellence in the Community Celebrates Black History Month

To celebrate Black History Month, Excellence in the Community will feature artists of color during the month of February. Don’t miss celebrated vocalist Dee Dee Darby Duffin and local favorite Joshy Soul & The Cool.

Founded in 2005, Excellence in the Community is 501C3 nonprofit organization based on the premise that Utah’s best musicians and dancers represent a powerful resource for bringing people together and enhancing communities. They work to create more and better performance opportunities for local Utah artists. Since their first event in 2005, they’ve presented over 650 concerts to Utahns.

Since moving to the Gallivan Center in December 2011, all of the concerts have been offered free to the public. With a focus on quality musicianship and a diversity of styles, the concerts appeal to a broad range of age groups and musical preferences. Excellence in the Community is always excited to see families with young children in their audiences and they encourage families to attend.

Gallivan Center

The Gallivan Center is one of THE BLOCKS’ most popular venues. Located in downtown Salt Lake City it’s a great place to take a stroll, attend concerts, participate in festivals, and much more. Excellence in the Community engages the main stage at Gallivan for their free concerts in the summer months. When it gets colder, they move upstairs to Gallivan Hall a beautiful indoor venue where audiences can gather more intimately for performances.

Parking: The best parking for Gallivan Center events is under the Plaza. Access is on 200 South, between Main and State street. Important note: this parking entrance can only be accessed if you are eastbound on 200 South, you must turn East onto 200 South from either West Temple or Main Street. Event parking is about $5.
